Lena Dunham’s awesome, celeb-packed collab with Planned Parenthood
Lena Dunham turned her book tour into a literary circus, so it completely makes sense that she wants to keep her official book tour t-shirt interesting too. Rather than just slap an image of her book cover on the front and call it a day, Dunham had her Not That Kind Of Girl pink shirts designed to read “Lena ♥’s Planned Parenthood.”
This week, Dunham took to Instagram to show off her famous friends and supporters in their pink cotton finery. Here are some of the best shots of the bunch.
AMY POEHLER!
MINDY KALING!!!

AMY SCHUMER!
APATOW CLAN!
AAAAAHHHH EVERYBODY!!!
Dunham’s shirts support Planned Parenthood’s Action Fund (@PPact)’s Women Are Watching, a campaign designed to encourage women to get out and vote in November. Dunham wrote a piece for the Women Are Watching website entitled “5 Reasons Why I Vote (And You Should Too)” in which she cites reasons for voting that are universal (“When you vote, you feel so, so good” and “I find it incredibly, deeply satisfying that every vote is equal”), and reasons that are specific to issues affecting women (“The crazy and depressing truth is that there are people running for office right now who could actually affect your life. PARTICULARLY your sex life. PARTICULARLY if you’re a woman. Yup”). AND “I vote because the number of backwards, out-of-touch, downright freaking unbelievably anti-women’s health politicians out there right now makes my blood boil.”
In this super-worth-the-read piece, she turns her spotlight on some key issues affecting women’s health this election season. She runs down a few of the most insane points below:
And Dunham makes the very important point that even if you don’t live in these states, you can still help Planned Parenthood’s Action Fund by filling out The Actionator, a Mad Libs-like questionnaire that asks you a few simple things (a few serious things, a few jokey things) and then gives you an easy to follow plan.
Dunham isn’t the only celeb collab-ing with Planned Parenthood for upcoming election, Samantha Ronson and MC Lyte just released a “Women Are Watching” playlist to raise awareness for next week’s election. The jams are great and they come from a great place. As MC Lyte puts it:
Good on these celebrities for using their famous-people super powers to team up with Planned Parenthood and get the word out about these important issues during an election season. Every vote counts, you guys.
