We’re loving Lena Dunham’s paparazzi pic she posted to her Instagram. Here’s why.

As a rule, most stars don’t post their paparazzi photos on their social media accounts, and Lena Dunham is no exception. That said, yesterday she posted a pic on Insta that the paps snapped of our girl getting her run on while shooting a scene for Girls, and in a pitch-perfect caption accompanying the gorg shot, explained why she shared this exercise pic on social.

She wrote, “Not usually one to post a paparazzi shot but this fills me with pride. Basically my whole life I have hated running and run like wounded baby Pterodactyl. …@jennikonner is directing the season finale of Girls and decided as Hannah evolved so would her run, so she got a training session…I felt strong, swift and proud. …It’s a true joy to continue getting more connected to my body and its powers.”

What separates this workout shot (and message) from so many we see coming from celebrities is that Dunham isn’t making running about shrinking her body. Lena’s goal in taking up running was to become more powerful. As Dunham puts it so beautifully, learning to run made her feel “strong, swift, and proud.” She nails right on the head what exercise should be about: “getting more connected to [her] body and its powers.” We think this is such a smart and healthy way to look at exercise and we love the thoughtful contribution Dunham makes to the fitness conversation. And the post has already amassed 128,000 likes since she posted it yesterday evening.

Plus, Dunham has received a ton of really positive, supportive comments from her fans. Here are just a few:

“Good for you! You look awesome. There is nothing like running to make you feel strong and proud. Enjoy your journey!” -mummynanny

“perfectly sums up with it means to be a runner. Half the time you look and feel like you’ve never run a step in your life but the wonderful feeling that other 50% of the time makes it all worth it.” -kate.hickey2

“You are amazing and inspire me to do so much more. ? THANK YOU” -katecache

This isn’t the first time Lena’s gotten inspirational on Insta re: exercise. In April, she shared another badass workout selfie with an equally A+ message.

Thank you Lena Dunham, for making exercise about what it’s actually about —being healthy. Exercise is something you should do for yourself, not to take up less physical space, but to become more powerful so you can take up more space in the world by, you know, ruling it.
