Why Lena Dunham’s latest lingerie pic matters
The lingerie selfie movement is HERE and we love it. Why? Because as women, we are constantly told by the world (overtly, and more quietly, but pretty much constantly) to feel bad about our bodies because most of us don’t look like Victoria’s Secret Angels. The lingerie selfie’s an awesome way to reclaim our bodies and say “I don’t care if I’m not featured in a Victoria’s Secret catalog, I love myself and I’ve decided to be a lingerie model anyway SO THERE.”
As Courtney Mina, a blogger who became super-famous on Instagram for posting a week of lingerie selfies, told People earlier this month, “I wanted to not only explain and show how I gained my own confidence, but show people what actually happens when you’re a plus-size person being confident, sexy, and showing off your body.”
Now Lena Dunham, who has been a body positive role model for years, is getting in on the lingerie selfie action. Dunham posted the following awesomeness on Instagram yesterday (and though the pic has obviously been taken by someone else, we are all calling it a ‘selfie’ using the broadest, Kim Kardashian-Selfish selfie definition):
She captioned this Insta-greatness with the following: “Love my @lonelylingerie and I think I will wear it to dinner with some boots & a smile because we are all very lucky to be free.”
We love our badass Lena and her brilliant plan to make dinner a lingerie and boots affair. We also love her choice in underthings, and the mission statement of Lonely Lingerie, “Intimates for ladies who view lingerie as a love letter to themselves.” That’s EXACTLY what the lingerie selfie movement is all about.
Woohoo Lena! You are such a force of gorgeousness, we are so glad we have you setting the most badass example of self-love!
