Lena Dunham just posted the most body-positive nude selfie

Lena Dunham has long been a champion of body positivity and self-love, and Dunham’s latest nude Instagram pic and accompanying message is literally making us cheer. The writer and actress has been super open about her ongoing struggles with endometriosis and how the disease has affected her relationship with her body — but she is powering through with grace and positivity.

And she’s now addressing the fact that — while she’s always loved her body — she had gotten into the habit of insulting herself — often times as a way of beating naysayers to the punchline. And she’s over it!

"I spent so many years loving my body but thinking it wasn't lovable by others- its sole purpose was to be fodder for jokes. I performed the insult so no one else could," Dunham candidly wrote.

She continued, “But now, at age 31, having been through hell and back with my health and other people’s perceptions of my physicality, I feel deeply comfortable with the idea that this pear-shaped pot of honey is equally good for making people laugh and laying out like a Suicide Girl circa 2004. Love it all.”

We are so into this sentiment — we can have a sense of humor about ourselves and appreciate and love our bodies. It doesn’t have to be one or the other, and we definitely should NEVER let comments from others affect our self-worth (because let’s be real — so often it’s about other people’s issues and baggage than anything that actually has to do with us or our bodies).
