In a very fortunate event, Lemony Snicket just donated $1 million to Planned Parenthood
You can make all of the gleeful puns involving A Series Of Unfortunate Events you like, because thanks to the author of the popular series, it’s a very fortunate week indeed.
Daniel Handler, known by his pen name Lemony Snicket, tweeted yesterday that he and his wife, illustrator Lisa Brown, are donating a whopping $1 million to Planned Parenthood. “We’ve been very fortunate, and good fortune should be shared with noble causes,” Handler tweeted.
“My husband and I have supported Planned Parenthood for years, for obvious reasons: It’s a great organization that has provided top-quality health care for countless women and families in our lives,” Brown told BuzzFeed.
“This year, Planned Parenthood has gone through a series of unfortunate events, and it felt right to make our support more public and more dramatic,” Brown continued.
Planned Parenthood, which endured a hearing today in front of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in a battle between the non-profit women’s healthcare organization and House Republicans, tweeted their thanks to the couple.
Others tweeted their support (many taking advantage of that aforementioned pun opportunity):
In the midst of an ongoing congressional investigation, this is unbelievable kindness, generosity, and warmth that a dedicated organization desperately needed. Thank you to Daniel Handlers and Lisa Brown for your noble donation that will save thousands of lives and inspire millions of others.
