These are the least popular baby names of 2017
When looking for unique baby names, celebrities tend to think outside of the box — e.g. North West, Sir Carter, Apple Martin, Bronx Mowgli, etc. While this may work out all right within the lives of the rich and famous, there might be a less risky way to find a special name for your new tot…aka choosing an unpopular baby name.
Because if the name’s unpopular, then it’s sure to be unique, right?
And yes, we know…the names might not be popular because most people don’t want to name their kids these monikers anymore. Yourself included. And that’s fair! But aren’t you now just a little curious what names are ranking at the bottom of the baby name barrel these days?
If the answer is yes, we’ve got you covered. Baby Centre recently released a list of 24 of the most unpopular names of 2017, and, while a few sound painfully outdated, some are actually pretty cute.
For the girls we have:
- Cilla
- Bertha
- Cynthia
- Janice
- Anita
- Marcia
- Mildred
- Dorothy
- Edna
- Bonnie
- Cindy
- Donna
- Gail
- Karen
We’re a little surprised to see some of these names on this list. Bonnie and Dorothy are adorable! Maybe it’s time they come back in vogue.
Now for the boys:
- Ian
- Frank
- Clarence
- Ricky
- Edmund
- Gus
- Roger
- Bertram
- Clive
- Roald
We love Ricky! Ahem, Ricky Ricardo? Edmund and Clive are also super cute.
As a reminder, some of the most popular girls names of 2017 include Olivia, Amelia, Charlotte, Isla, Isabella, Ava, Aurora, Evelyn, Penelope, and Eleanor, while some of the most popular boy names are Asher, Atticus, Jack, Ezra, Theodore, Milo, Jasper, Oliver, Silas, and Wyatt, per the baby blog Nameberry.
You’ll notice some old-fashioned names like Eleanor and Theodore are making a comeback, which means that we might see more names from the least popular lists becoming cool again soon enough.
We are personally loving some of these “unpopular” names. Grab them while they’re still untrendy.
