And the awesome lady reboots keep on coming- get ready for a female-centric ‘League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’

You know how much we love these lady-powered reboots (GIRL GHOSTBUSTERS FOREVER!!!!) so of COURSE we got excited when we heard that there’s a female-focused League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in the works. So, would that be a League of Extraordinary…Gentlewomen? Or a League of Extraordinary Ladies? Whatever name they end up landing on, we’re excited.

So here’s what we know- the property started out as a comic book series created and written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Kevin O’Neill, which takes place in Victorian England and features a host of famous literary characters of the era (Captain Nemo, Dr. Jekyll, the Invisible Man, etc.) teaming up to stop literary foes, including Sherlock Holmes’ nemesis Moriarty, the aliens from H.G. Wells War of the Worlds, there is even an immortality subplot that allows certain members to hang out until 1958 to deal with the fallout from 1984’s Big Brother regime.

There HAS been one other movie adaptation of Extraordinary Gentleman, the 2003 flick starring Sean Connery. A reboot was announced this May, and at the 2015 Television Critics Association awards ceremony, Collider spoke to the reboot’s producer John Davis, and found out that this adaptation was going to focus on its lady characters:

“It’s female-centric, which I think is interesting. I love female characters, point-of-view characters in action movies. I thought Mad Max [Fury Road] was great. I think you can always find a fresh way of doing something and going back to the basics. What is that people love? What is it that made them love the property in the first place?”

In the original comic series, the only real lady lead is Mina Murray AKA the female protagonist of Dracula. So we’re hoping that this reboot brings other awesome lady characters of the era onto the scene. Sherlock’s Holmes’ Irene Adler? Jo March all grown up and ready to kick butt? ALL THE MARCH SISTERS grown up and ready to kick butt? Jane Eyre is reaching a LITTLE far back, but they could play fast and loose with history, they did that whole immortality-1984-Big-Brother plot, they can make Jane Eyre a Victorian-era superheroine.

Okay, now our imaginations are running all kinds of wild and we are super-jazzed to keep tabs on this project and see what happens next!
