Laverne Cox just made history again!

Actress and activist Laverne Cox is no stranger to breaking barriers. As a transgender woman who is outspoken about trans rights, she’s graced the covers of magazines and won awards honoring her incredible work and endless pursuit of equality. She was the first trans woman on the cover of Time magazine and the first trans woman nominated for an Emmy.

And now the Orange is the New Black star can add one more accomplishment to her long list: Cox will be the first transgender figure to receive a wax statue at Madame Tussauds in their entire 200 year history.

The iconic wax museum announced the upcoming addition to their collection yesterday. It will be unveiled by Cox herself on the 26th, ahead of San Francisco’s 45th annual Pride Celebration & Parade. The statue will be housed in the Madama Tussauds museum in Fisherman’s Wharf.

Cox made a statement to Entertainment Weekly, telling the magazine she is “deeply honored to have been asked to be part of the Madame Tussauds legacy.”

“When I think about being who I am, a black trans woman from a working class background raised in Mobile, Alabama, this honor feels even more improbable and extraordinary. I hope that this will be a source of inspiration for everyone who encounters it to believe that their dreams matter and are possible.”

Madame Tussauds also released a short video of Cox’s sitting, showing how they go about creating the wax figure.

We’re so happy for Laverne Cox, and thrilled that Madame Tussauds has chosen her for a wax statue! She’s such an inspiration, and we cannot wait to see the statue itself later this month! And Cox’s fans have even more reasons to rejoice: season three of Orange is The New Black hist Netflix on June 12. Color us pumped.
