This blogger can fit four years of trash into a single mason jar, is giving us all of the #wastefreegoals
Some of us major in art history to freak our parents out about our future employment prospects. Others major in economics, but secretly dream about making Rihanna’s next music video. Lauren Singer is literally living her best life by doing exactly what she majored in. The 25-year-old Brooklynite was studying environmental science in college when she realized how wasteful her own life was.
In an interview with ABC News, she said:
“Every single thing in there was packaged in plastic. I was like, ‘Wow, I’m just as bad.’ I was protesting against the oil and gas industry, but supporting them as a consumer.”

So, she decided to start living a life that met her standards of sustainability. Now, she makes sure to avoid any products that can’t be composted or recycled, and all of her trash from the last four years fits into a single, 16-ounce mason jar.
Lauren started a blog called Trash is for Tossers that follows her journey and outlines different ways to live zero waste lives. Her Instagram account with the same name has over 62,000 followers. Lauren makes her own products, uses homemade toothpaste and a bamboo toothbrush, buys second hand clothing, and packs a lunch made from food she gets at a local farmer’s market, which aside from sounding delicious, is a lot healthier than eating junk food.
Lauren’s focus and passion is so exciting. She has totally transformed her life, and is giving us all a roadmap for doing the same.
“I absolutely love this lifestyle. I see no future of living any other way.”
We’re with you, Lauren! You’ve inspired us to think about how much we throw away without thinking about it. Although we have a long way to go until we could keep all of our trash in a single jar.
