Lauren Jauregui is touring with Fifth Harmony, but she still found time to drop a single with Halsey

It’s not a secret that we kind of love Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui and Halsey over here. So when we first heard that the two would team up on Halsey’s upcoming album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom? Yeah, we kind of couldn’t wait for the new song.

And now, the music goddesses have blessed us with a collab between the two pop femme fatales.

“Strangers” is a breakup bop, a showdown between the singer and her wayward girlfriend.

The track gets its name from the chorus: “I remember, I remember what you told me / Said that we’re not lovers, we’re just strangers.” The song follows a breakup as told by Halsey/Jauregui, tracing the steps of what went wrong. (Just a thought, it wouldn’t be so far-fetched to believe both are singing at each other.)

Both Jauregui and Halsey are outspokenly bisexual and outspoken against bi-erasure. “Strangers” is a subtle nod to their personal lives, while taking on the time-honored tradition of the breakup song. Overall, it’s the kind of darkly romantic song that’s Halsey’s bread and butter. Here, it’s Jauregui who’s pushing her sonic boundaries away from Fifth Harmony’s power pop group sound.

Though Jauregui is currently on tour for Fifth Harmony, we’re curious how she’ll negotiate performing these kinds of solo features. And as for Halsey, this is another indication that Hopeless Fountain Kingdom is gonna be one of the most hyped albums this year.
