Lauren Graham says “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” is ~sneakily feminist~ and we couldn’t be more excited

If you need another reason to start getting ridiculously excited for the upcoming Gilmore Girls revival — not that you aren’t just bursting with ~feelings~ about it right now — Lauren Graham dropped another amazing tidbit: the show is going to be feminist. Because DUH, of course it is.

But the way Graham describes it, this feminist vibe for Gilmore Girls is going to give you a warm and fuzzy feeling all over. It’s not just feminist in the sense that the ladies are taking charge and getting things done, but because they believe in themselves, and each other. And that’s so much more important than rooting for any ~team~.

“It’s why we sometimes bristle at: What team are you on?!” Graham recently explained to Entertainment Weekly. “It’s like: It doesn’t matter. Rory’s going to be great no matter what. And I think that’s an underlying message of the show, too.”

“I would be remiss if I didn’t say that [Rory and Lorelai’s] main strength, even if they believe in true love, is that they have themselves and they have each other. The show is sneakily feminist in that it’s always been great for them to have love, but they’re also okay when they don’t. That self-sufficiency is the first strength and that allows them to have these relationships.”

And it’s those core relationships that we love so much. Yeah, we might secretly (or not so secretly) root for these ladies to end up with one gentleman or the other, but the bottom line is that we’re really just rooting for them to be HAPPY — with or without a guy.

Hearing all of this is like the cherry on top of a perfect Gilmore Girls sundae. ONLY 77 DAYS TO GO!!
