This plus-size model admits she “loathed” her smaller frame with side-by-side photos

Another day, another body shaming or “fat-calling” incident. It’s seriously like Groundhog Day. From the pregnant news anchor who was body-shamed so badly that Gabrielle Union sent her clothing to celebs like Rihanna who boldly clap back at body-shaming internet trolls, we’ve seen it all.

There’s no shortage of people who internalize the belief that being skinnier is better, will make you happier, and that it’s the way to live. They’re also usually pretty vocal about it.

But one woman says she’s happier than ever in her curvier body. Australian model La’Tecia Thomas took to Instagram to share a side-by-side photo — not just to compare her body’s differences, but to also discuss the night-and-day difference when it comes to how she feels.

La’Tecia shared with her 500,000 followers that self-love should never be dependent on the number shown on your scale.

"I think it’s important to have a positive relationship between your mind and your body first and foremost at whatever size you may be."

Just a few months ago, La’Tecia shared another side-by-side photo and stressed the importance of a positive outlook and healthy body image, whether you’re a size 2 or size 22.

"I prefer me at any weight as long as I'm happy. It's okay to love yourself no matter what your size is."

When speaking on how she used to feel when she was smaller, La’Tecia told the Daily Mail Australia: “When I look back now, I realize how toxic my mindset was. But when I look in the mirror now and don’t even think twice about it, I put on my outfit and think, ‘yeah I look great’.”

La’Tecia has become a vocal body-positive advocate. And naturally, every badass, confident chick deals with annoying trolls. Though she’s loving her body, the model has no shame in admitting that negative comments can affect her, but it’s important that “you don’t let that define you.”

The woman who once felt, “I’d rather be caught dead than seen in a swimsuit,” now frequently posts two-piece pics with her curves on full display.

Confidence really is the best accessory.
