This “Last Jedi” TV spot is the most intense 45 seconds of “Star Wars” you’ll see today
We’re at last reaching the final stretch before The Last Jedi arrives in theaters. During Game 7 of the World Series last night, Lucasfilm dropped a TV spot for the film and honestly, if you weren’t already as excited as Chewbacca winning a game of Dejarik, you certainly will be.
Comprised of already released footage as well as new material, the 45-second clip gives us a quick glimpse of what most of our faves are up to — naturally omitting Laura Dern’s Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo and Benicio Del Toro’s very mysterious DJ from the trailer, because they want us to be THAT shook when we see them. But just when we didn’t think Lucasfilm and Disney could shock us any more before the film’s release, a major bomb dropped.
Luke Skywalker will reunite with the Millennium Falcon.
That’s right, and this might be the most emotional Star Wars reunion to date. Not only that, Luke clearly climbs aboard the fastest ship in the galaxy, meaning it could hopefully take him back to civilization, and more importantly, the Resistance. If you’re not crying you, should be.
But despite the incredible reunion between Luke and the Falcon, this TV spot is *anything* but hopeful. A clip that showed Kylo Ren renouncing his past and looking even further toward his First Order future — because it seems killing his father, Han Solo, wasn’t evil enough — and an ominous Snoke pronouncing that the darkness is rising sets the tone for this trailer.
After what appears to be a Jedi showdown, Luke, whose one-time unwavering faith in the Force has been shattered by Kylo’s descent into darkness, tells his new mentee Rey, “This is not going to go the way you think,” during a montage of battle clips and concerned looks from Leia, Poe Dameron, and Finn.
