Right now, “The Last Jedi” is the second-highest rated “Star Wars” movie on Rotten Tomatoes *ever*
As if fans needed any more indication that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is perfect: As of the morning of December 12th, The Last Jedi was officially the highest-rated Star Wars movie on Rotten Tomatoes. Ever. And it’s not even in theaters yet.
The Last Jedi made its Rotten Tomatoes debut today with a whopping 96% fresh rating.
That rating has dipped *slightly* as the day has gone on to 93%, now making it the second-highest rated Star Wars movie — tied with The Force Awakens and A New Hope. The Empire Strikes Back currently holds first place with 94%, and is often called one of the greatest movies of all time. You know, NBD.
While it’s no longer in first place, 93% is a pretty kick-ass rating. So far, 141 critics have already weighed in to say that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is basically two-and-a-half hours of “OMG,” and this is really fueling our fangirl fire. We can’t help but think the existence of Porgs had something to do with this. They’re just SO CUTE. #PorgsForever #TeamPorg #SorryNotSorry

In terms of Rotten Tomatoes scores for Star Wars films, like we said, The Last Jedi had some fierce competition.
The Force is pretty strong with the Star Wars Tomato-meter, particularly with the OG films and newer entries (sorry, prequels). Even so, a 96% fresh debut is astonishing. The film doesn’t reach its widest audiences until December 15th at the earliest.
So if you aren’t already in line for your midnight screening, hopefully this will prompt you to get there ASAP.
