John Boyega gave Kelly Marie Tran some interesting fitness advice on the set of “The Last Jedi”
You’ve just been cast in the latest Star Wars movie, congrats! But now, here’s the thing: You’ve got to get fit and ready to fight for the Resistance (……or the First Order). Though the movie’s not out yet, we’ve seen lots of behind-the-scenes footage of the cast training for the epic battles in The Last Jedi, and their moves look intense. As Kelly Marie Tran explained to HelloGiggles during the recent Last Jedi press day, that whole battle regimen was a little tough for her. She turned to her partner in crime on set, John Boyega, for advice.
Tran is more than happy to gush about Mr. Big Deal himself — and also offers up the best thing he taught her…which may or may not actually be a good thing.
“He is someone who — I really do believe from the first day we clicked immediately,” Tran told HG. Also, just to note, for the interview Tran was sporting a sweatshirt with Boyega’s face on it, captioned with “WWJBD?” It was glorious.
"We just had the most fun on set. We were joking around all the time. And he also is just so generous in terms of his acting work and he really did a great job of showing me the ropes when I needed that. I don't think I could have had a better partner in this, especially as someone new coming into something so big. He always made it feel like I could play and I felt comfortable enough to be vulnerable and to be all of those things. So that says a lot about him."
As for some solid advice he gave her on set? Tran explains, “The whole fitness part of it and the whole diet part of it was really hard for me because I’m a girl who likes to eat.” FYI, Tran, you are also a girl after our own heart, but moving on…
"John was probably the one person who was like," Tran pauses, before confessing, "He basically would tell me that he would like sneak certain food. And, I was like, 'I'm gonna do that.' He's so funny and just so honest and open. I learned like weird little tricks like that, that kind of helped the whole thing go."
Partners in crime on their top-secret Resistance mission, and partners in crime over at the craft service table, too. The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15th.
