This new “Last Jedi” featurette appears to be full of SPOILERS

A new behind-the-scenes featurette from the set of The Last Jedi was just released, and it looks like Rian Johnson may just be the most excited Star Wars director on Planet Earth.

The USA Today exclusive clip features Johnson showing off the film’s spectacular sets and props — even trying on a stormtrooper helmet — while opening up on the surreal experience of directing a Star Wars film, having grown up a massive fan of the long-running franchise.

“There’s the weird thing that happens when [the set] is being built, and when you first show up on it, you’re kind of overwhelmed by it all, he said, of being on set. “And then you get into the nitty gritty of working on it. And naturally, that level of it goes away, and you find yourself just focused on making the scene work, getting the shots. Then once in a while, you’re taking a little break and sitting back, and you look around, and you get the ‘holy crap’ moment again.

While it seems Johnson had the time of his life on the set of The Last Jedi, the cast — including Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Gwendoline Christie, and Carrie Fisher – all praised the director for his work on the film.

The featurette also features brief clips from the film not yet seen in trailers, and OMG, are those potential spoilers we’re seeing?

Okay, there are no *huge* spoilers, but there are definitely important things to notice hidden between scenes of a giddy Johnson showing off the film.

For starters, it looks like we’ll not only see Finn (Boyega) in recovery mode but he’ll also improve enough to go undercover with Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) — AND potentially Benicio del Toro’s mysterious character DJ — as officers on the First Order. We also clearly see Rey (Ridley) hanging out in the Snoke magical sanctuary set, so we know they’ll be coming face-to-face (or face-to-hologram?) during The Last Jedi.

Meanwhile Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) continues to be the coolest X-wing pilot in the Resistance.

To be honest, we’d probably watch two and a half hours of Poe being the best character in the galaxy, but we understand that due to time restraints we’ll only glimpse Poe’s true badassery.

Johnson also spoke with USA Today about the challenges each of the characters in the Resistance face as they continue to do whatever they can to further the progress of the Resistance. The director added that the film will also be emotional, as Fisher makes her final appearance as Leia Organa.

"Having these scenes in the film recontextualize tragically with her not being here anymore, it’s incredibly emotional," Johnson said. "For the next few months, seeing the fans…process the loss and celebrate her as Leia one last time, it’s going to be intense. I think it’s going to be really sad but really joyful, I hope. She really kicks butt as General Leia, and I’m happy for that."

Ugh, we’re already crying! The Last Jedi opens in theaters on December 15th.
