“The Last Jedi” is dedicated to Carrie Fisher, so be sure to bring EXTRA tissues
We all knew this was going to happen, so it should come as no surprise. As the credits roll, you’ll see that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is dedicated to the late Carrie Fisher.
Fisher passed away last year in December, following complications from a cardiac arrest. At the time, she was on her way back home from London. After the plane landed in Los Angeles, she was rushed to the hospital where she spent the next few days. However, she sadly never recovered, and passed away on December 27th, 2016. She was 60 at the time of her passing.
Her death sent a shockwave through the entire galaxy world, and that includes within the Star Wars family and fandom. Outpourings of love flooded in, and we learned that even though Fisher might not be with us anymore, she will be with us in spirit forever. Her life and legacy will live on, ultimately, in the movies and in our hearts.
The Last Jedi marks her final appearance onscreen and — no spoilers! — it’s a great one. Shortly after the credits begin, the screen flashes with:
“In loving memory of our princess, Carrie Fisher.”

Director Rian Johnson also paid tribute to Fisher at Last Jedi premiere over the weekend, telling the audience before the movie, “I want to dedicate tonight to Carrie. I know she’s up there right now flipping me the bird, saying, ‘Damn it Rian, how dare you bring the mood down and make this night a solemn tribute.’ So let’s all have a blast together for Carrie.”
Fisher would want us to have a blast, and celebrate everything, and keep being ourselves. So go into The Last Jedi not sad that this is the last time we’ll see Leia onscreen, but happy that we get this one last movie together and we can hold onto it forever.
