Lady Gaga supported Madonna after her “Billboard” speech and it screams “GIRL POWER”

We love it when our fave girls come together, which is why we can’t stop cheering Lady Gaga after she supported Madonna following the legendary pop singer’s emotional and inspiring speech at Billboard‘s Women in Music event on Friday (December 9th).

In her speech, Madonna addressed the sexism, ageism, and misogyny she’s faced in her career, speaking out against the double standards in the music industry and the constant stream of abuse and bullying she’s been subjected to. The star had previously touched upon the topics in an interview with actress Elizabeth Banks for Billboard, but the star took to the stage on Friday (wearing a stunning colorful tiger pantsuit) to speak openly about her experiences.

Now, things haven’t always be, shall we say, smooth sailing between Lady Gaga and Madonna. While initially Madonna was impressed with Gaga’s musicality and theatrics, the pair seemed to have a passive aggressive feud over the similarities between the songs “Born This Way” and “Express Yourself,” with Madonna calling the whole thing “reductive” in an interview.

Despite Gaga insisting that things between the two singers was all fine, the “feud” (if you can even call it that) sparked a fan war that rages until this day. Gaga also didn’t help matters when earlier this year she seemed to throw a bit of shade at Madonna during an interview with Zane Lowe.

"I don't mean to disrespect Madonna . . . she’s a nice lady. And she’s had a fantastic, huge career. She’s the biggest pop star of all time," Gaga said. "But I play a lot of instruments. I write all my own music. I spend hours and hours a day in the studio. I'm a producer. I'm a writer. What I do is different."

While Gaga went on to say that she just didn’t want to be compared to anyone, including Madonna, the damage was apparently done. “I just will not be compared to anyone anymore I am who the f–k I am and this is me,” she said.

However, now it seems that Gaga has tried to bury the hatchet by praising Madonna and her incredible speech.

Taking to Twitter, Gaga sent out her thanks to Madonna for everything she’s done for women.

"@Madonna your speech at the Billboard Music Awards was inspiring. You're so brave & strong. Thanks for being that for us girls we need that," she wrote.

Okay, that’s WAAY more like it. We love seeing it when girls come together and support each other, and it’s so fantastic to see Gaga come out and support Madonna in a public way. Hopefully, her message will put an end to the speculation that the two are constantly warring with each other, especially after the comments Madonna made about women not supporting other women.

"Women hate women," Madonna told Billboard in an interview. "That’s what I think it is. Women’s nature is not to support other women. It’s really sad. Men protect each other, and women protect their men and children. Women turn inward and men are more external."

While we can’t say that we 100% agree with Madonna’s point of view, it’s nice to see Gaga come out and prove that women do support each other. Both are fantastic and different artists and we the fact that they’re supporting each other. Girl power.
