There were not one, but TWO ties at the 2019 Critics’ Choice Awards, and it was weirdly so emotional

Awards season just got a little more interesting. At the 2019 Critics’ Choice Awards on January 13th, Glenn Close and Lady Gaga tied for Best Actress. As in, both their names were called and they each took the stage to accept an award and give a speech. Close accepted her award for her performance in The Wife, and Gaga accepted for her role in A Star Is Born.

"I'm so thrilled it's a tie, I can't tell you!" Close said when she accepted her award. “I was thinking that, you know, the world kind of pits us against each other in this profession and I know that from all the women in this category, and I think I can speak for all the women in this room, we celebrate each other."

Gaga then took the stage, saying, “Glenn, get over here!” as Close stepped aside to give her space for her speech. Gaga and Close then stood arm-in-arm before exiting the stage together. And strangely enough, this wasn’t the only tie of the evening. Patricia Arquette and Amy Adams tied for Best Actress in a Limited Series.

The Critics’ Choice Awards are voted on by members of The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA), which according to its website, “is the largest film critics organization in the United States and Canada,” and contains over 330 members.
