“Lady Bird” just broke the biggest Rotten Tomatoes record
Now hear this: Greta Gerwig’s new dramedy, Lady Bird,is a funny, heartbreaking, intimate portrait of late teenage-hood. It also just broke the biggest Rotten Tomatoes record. Are you ready for it? The review site, which aggregates film reviews from critics and fans, has announced that Lady Bird is the best-reviewed movie in Rotten Tomatoes history. It has a 100% critical rating, taking 170 reviews (and counting) into account.
AND OMG, THIS IS AMAZING.
Rotten Tomatoes has a massive collection of reviews (film and TV!) available. Many of them are from the years before the website was “a thing,” so you can search ratings for even decades-old films. The last film to score a perfect 100 from Rotten Tomatoes was none other than Toy Story 2. Yes, Toy Story 2, the 1999 sequel from Disney/Pixar.
The site’s other perfectly-reviewed films are names like Citizen Kane, North by Northwest and Singin’ in the Rain. So yeah, Lady Bird is in really good company.
The indie film is written and directed by Gerwig, and stars Saoirse Ronan as the titular Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson. It examines mother-daughter relationships, Catholic school, and so much more. And it’s now the best-reviewed film on Rotten Tomatoes.
A film dominated by women just broke a longstanding record! Hear that, world?!
Congrats to Greta Gerwig and the entire cast of Lady Bird! BTW, Lady Bird is still in theaters, so don’t flip out if you missed it. You still have plenty of time. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have to go cry ourselves a river over this Rotten Tomatoes news.
