A “Labyrinth” reboot is happening and here’s what we know

The world of the 1986 cult classic Labyrinth will be coming back to life thanks to a deal that was solidified between TriStar pictures and the Jim Henson company. And, while many people seem nervous about the movie since so many elements of the original were completely unique and impossible to ever begin to recreate, we’re optimistic that this could be an amazing movie.

The original story, which followed a young girl’s quest to save her brother from a fantastical world after he was snatched away by a glamorous and mysterious Goblin King Jareth, played by the one-and-only David Bowie, was an incredible and magical new adventures for all of us. It created a fantasy world filled with delightful creatures and oozed with so much childlike wonder, it made our imaginations go into over-drive. Now, we’ll get a chance to not only reenter that world, but introduce it to a whole new generation.

There’s no argument, of course, that anyone could replace the iconic David Bowie in one of his most beloved roles. Even just logistically, there are very few people who have ever existed who could make that haircut look as sexy and cool as Bowie did.

But the writer who’s been drafted to undertake this task is Nicole Pearlman, who co-wrote Guardians of the Galaxy (and more recently co-wrote the upcoming Captain Marvel film). Pearlman has proven to be an extremely talented writer with a great sense of storytelling and an even better sense of humor.

So basically, if anyone can do this, she can.

And, while what exactly the film will be about is still unknown, she’s made it clear that this movie is not going to be just an attempt to simply reboot the old story.

All in all, we’re pretty excited. The mystical world we loved so much in 1986 is in good hands and we anxiously anticipate its restoration.
