Dust off your dancing shoes, because “La La Land” in concert is coming to a city (of stars) near you
It’s been a week since the Oscars, but we’re still humming the songs from La La Land — which is great news because, as it turns out, La La Land is now a live symphony orchestral concert.
Debuting at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl on May 26 (because duh — the only more perfect place would be the Griffith Observatory), “La La Land in Concert: A Live-to-Film Celebration” will include a 100-piece symphony orchestra, jazz ensemble, and choir, performing songs from the movie for a two-night extravaganza.
And just in case seeing this Oscar-winning soundtrack played and sang live wasn’t enough, the event encourages “vintage Hollywood-inspired dress,” featuring a fireworks display and pre-show photo ops.
“Damien [Chazelle] made a beautiful tribute to Los Angeles with La La Land, and I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate the film’s music at an LA landmark with incredible LA musicians,” Justin Hurwitz, the film’s composer (who will also conduct the concert), said in a statement.
Though the show’s musical accompaniments will be performed live, they’ll still have the main vocals of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, to absolutely no one’s complaint.
The best part? If you don’t live anywhere near L.A., you don’t have to cry into your pillow imagining what could be. The show is touring! The U.S. cities that have been confirmed are Seattle, San Antonio, Dallas, Nashville, Denver, Atlanta, Portland, San Diego, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Washington, D.C.
They’ve got non-U.S. folks covered too. If you’re in Canada, Turkey, Italy, Mexico, Switzerland, or the U.K., expect to be throwing money at a very fancy date night very soon.
Tickets for the first shows go on sale this Friday, March 10, at noon PT — and will probably sell out quickly, considering this movie nabbed six Oscars, was nominated for another eight, and raked in like 13 times as much money as it took to make.
So if you’re in the Los Angeles area, set yourself a calendar reminder and prepare to make the rest of us extremely jealous until we can get our butts out to a show near us!
