“La La Land” dominated the Golden Globes, and we’re definitely okay with that
If you’re like us and like to watch all the buzz-worthy movies come awards season, then you’re probably not too surprised that La La Land totally dominated the Golden Globes this year.
The film was nominated for a total of seven awards and won them all.
This included best film in the Musical/Comedy category, best director and best screenplay (both won by Damien Chazelle), best actor (Ryan Gosling), best actress (Emma Stone), as well as best score (Justin Hurwitz) and best song for “City of Stars.”
If you haven’t seen it (what have you been doing with your life?! Just kidding. But seriously) it’s about two young artists — an aspiring actress (Stone) and an aspiring musician (Gosling) — who fall in love while chasing their dreams in Los Angeles.
The film was made in the style of old Hollywood musicals — characters break into dance when they’re happy, since when they’re sad, and literally waltz among the stars while they’re falling in love. And it does it all within the context of modern life without seeming the tiniest bit outdated or cheesy.
via giphyOh, and as if all of that wasn’t cool enough, the movie’s director Damien Chazelle is the youngest director to ever win a Golden Globe at just 31 years old. WOAH.
Not to mention, the acceptance speeches were insanely good. In case you missed it, Ryan Gosling thanked his wife, Eva Mendes, for basically everything:
[...] while I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer. If she hadn’t have taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today. [...] I love you and if I may I’d like to dedicate this to the memory of her brother, Juan Carlos Mendez.
Oh, and we saw some MAJOR ex love when Andrew Garfield gave Emma Stone a standing ovation for her win, which just gave us so very many feels.
