Kristin Cavallari opens up about how she deals with online bullying, and her advice is so wise

Getting bullied sucks — no matter who you are.In fact, The Hills star Kristin Cavallari recently spoke about coping with getting bullied online, and her advice was so incredibly wise.

Most people deal with some form of bullying in their lifetimes, whether it’s during childhood, on the internet, or out in the real world. And it can be incredibly hard to block out the negativity completely.

Throw in being a celebrity in the public eye, and it can be even harder — since you’re literally inundated with other people’s opinions of you all day long — especially should you dare to be or share on social media. Cavallari specifically has been the target of mean and hateful comments, but seems to truly have gained a healthy perspective on the experience.

“People always say stuff to me on Instagram and you just have to remember that people who are going to comment, they’re obviously coming from an insecure place," she told People. "When you’re happy with your life and everything’s cool, you’re not going to go and try to put someone else down. So just remember: It’s not about you, it’s about them, and all you have to do is block them and delete the comments.

Seriously. SO MUCH YES. This is a lesson we wish he had internalized in middle school, and honestly it’s one we can definitely still use today. Bullying is so much less about you and so much more about the insecurity or unhappiness of the person or people doing the bullying.

People who seek to hurt others aren’t in a good place in their lives, so they try to put down other people to make themselves feel better.

We also love Cavallari’s simple but practical advice when it comes to cyberbullies: block the bullies and delete their comments whenever you can. Though there’s so much more to bullying than that, that super concrete advice can help a ton.

Thank you so much for being real with us, Kristin! We really appreciate your insight, and we’re confident your words are going to help so many people the world over!
