Kristen Stewart reveals the very practical reason why she shaved her head

It feels like just last week we were writing about her daring hair choices, but now we have even more respect for one of our favorite gender-bending style stars. Kristen Stewart just shaved her head, and besides looking amazing, she also did it for the coolest reason. Kristen’s new hair is for her next film Underwater, where she plays a mechanic working on an oil rig at the bottom of the ocean floor; aka practicality is KEY. This means plenty of helmet time and as little work as possible on behalf of Kristen’s hair. The actress told The Today Show that she’s the one who came up with the idea of shaving her hair, and her director agreed that it was a great move.

"I play a mechanical engineer that’s working on an oil rig on the bottom of the ocean floor, so, for me, it was like, it’s practical," Kristen revealed, "I’m not going to be able to have touch-ups once I have the helmet on. I must shave my head."

And on that note, we agree too! Kristen’s bleached shaved head looks perfect with a smokey eye and all black, adding an elegant androgynous edge to her glam. Kristen says change has been on her mind for a whileand we’re so glad she took the plunge to a fresh shaved scalp. As she redefines what it means to be “feminine,” she’s giving other women permission to do the same.

We love the combination of tailored pants with a corset accent, crop top, and simple pumps that Kristen chose to accent her new cropped hair. The all-black ensemble was both sharp and modern, and so perfectly Kristen. Brava!
