In celebration of the Kristen Stewart renaissance

When you’re the hottest new actress in the world (like Kristen Stewart was a few years ago), starring in the biggest movie franchise of the moment (aka Twilight), and dating everyone’s crush du jour (ahem, Robert Pattinson) backlash is sadly inevitable. And boy did Kristen deal with her fair share of HARSH backlash. Well kudos for weathering the storm, sister. No one should have to put up with that but you did, and you’re on the other side.

We’re SO happy to report that the tabloid noise seems to be quieting and her amazing work and general radness is finally getting the spotlight it deserves. Heard it here first: We seem to be smack dab in the middle of a Kristen Stewart indie-fueld renaissance and we couldn’t be more excited about it. Girl is a mega TALENT, and (if interviews don’t lie) a pretty legit badass. Here are just a few of the reasons we have our eyes on Kristen, and are pumped to see what she does next.

She was absolutely amazing in Still Alice

Like hold her own against Oscar winner Julianne Moore amazing. Like completely forget that she’s an actress and just think you’re watching a real person deal with life, amazing. In fact, Sony Pictures planned a push for her to get an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Unfortunately, she was not nominated, but still . . . amazing.

She won a massive award in France that no American has ever won

A couple of weeks ago, on Feb. 20th, Kristen won a highly-prestigious Cesar Award (think, the Oscars of France) for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the French film Clouds of Sils Maria.

Consider this for a second: she’s is the first American ever to win this prestigious award. Like, that’s crazy-impressive!

She doesn’t give AF about what people think

Kristen doesn’t give a hoot about what people think and there’s just something SO refreshing about that kind of honesty and confidence.

In fact, when asked about her haters, she told The Daily Beast:

“Honestly, I don’t care. It’s fine. I’m really happy doing what I’m doing. I’m sure there are a ton of people out there who would hate my movies even if they saw all those, just as I’m sure there are people out there who are obsessed with Twilight and say, ‘I watched the series, and she completely let me down, and then I watched every one of her other movies, and I f**kin’ hate her!’ And that’s cool! Just don’t watch my movies.”

Strong, independent woman? CHECK.

She says things that really make us think

We’ve swooned in the past about Kristen’s refreshing takes on life, like when she defined the issue surrounding the word “feminism”:

“I feel like some girls around my age are less inclined to say, ‘Of course I’m a feminist, and of course I believe in equal rights for men and women,’ because there are implications that go along with the word feminist that they feel are too in-your-face or aggressive. They don’t get that there’s no one particular way you have to be in order to stand for all of the things feminism stands for.”

Doesn’t that give you the urge to stand up and clap? If so, check out what she recently had to say about looking for the right partner:

“For me, the most attractive thing in a person is drive — genuine impulse expressed for the sake of it, not for perception. I think that’s hot. Whenever I see someone doing something and it looks like they just couldn’t not do it and they just need to get it out. They need to create. It’s a compulsion, and I share that.”

Kristen, we love you. Keep being your awesome self.
