Kristen Stewart’s relationship status, awesomely explained by her mom
For years, Kristen Stewart’s personal relationships have been fodder for speculation, scandalous media coverage and fan obsessions. Despite being a fairly private celebrity, the actress’ romantic ups and downs have made headlines since her early Twilight days. But now, it seems, Stewart’s mom is taking control of speculative reports, and confirming the latest relationship rumors in the coolest way possible.
In an interview with the Sunday Mirror, Jules Stewart opened up about her daughter’s relationship with her personal assistant Alicia Cargile. Jules wasn’t looking to out her daughter’s love life, but rather, to support it.
“I’ve met Kristen’s new girlfriend,” Jules told the paper. “I like her. What’s not to accept? She’s a lovely girl.”
“What’s not to be accepting about her now having a girlfriend? She’s happy,” Jules continued. “She’s my daughter, I’m just her mom so she knows I would accept her choices.”
And the very awesome Jules didn’t stop there. She also called out narrow-mindedness when it comes to sexual orientation.
“I feel like people need to be free to love whoever they want. I accept my daughter loves women and men. It’s OK to be who you are in my world. We all choose our friends so we should be free to choose our lovers. People are good to do whatever they like as long as they’re not hurting people or breaking the law.”
It’s so great to see a parent stand up for their child’s their decisions, especially when those decisions are so often derided in the press. It’s so important that parents support their children’s gender and sexual identity. Their actions have tremendous ripple effects, particularly when they speak out in a public forum. So thank you, Jules, for turning media speculation, into a teachable moment we’re all about.
