Kristen Stewart had an unusual reason for drastically changing her hair

We can’t peel our eyes away from the red carpet photos from the Cannes Festival this year. From Lily-Rose Depp to Blake Lively, there’s been a lot of gorgeous, Disney-inspired fashion going around, and we just can’t get enough. Kristen Stewart, on the other hand, stayed true to her edgy style inclinations, rocking the choppy, platinum blond lob that she debuted last month with an all-white ensemble and killer marble stilettos. And, what’s most exciting — she finally dished on the real reason why she bleached her hair. (Besides the obvious reason: It looks super cool.)

While loads of celebrities change their hair color with their mood, Kristen Stewart has stayed true to her chocolate-y brown ‘do for the majority of her time in the spotlight. So seeing her with incredible platinum strands — complete with not-trying-too-hard dark roots — is pretty shocking!

Some people have been speculating that her new brilliantly shiny locks were the result of a new movie role, but turns out that isn’t so.

“I just did like five movies over a two-year period, and I think it’s a very good decision for me right now to stop acting in movies for just a moment, and I’ve never really done that, I’ve never changed my appearance,” Kristen told People at Cannes. “I’ve always really stayed neutral since I was like 10 years old, so I was like, ‘I’m gonna direct a short, and I’m gonna fuck up my hair.’”

Every once in a while we get the urge to do something crazy with our hair (cue memories of high school experiments with a tub of Manic Panic in Pretty Flamingo), so we totally get it. We’re proud of the ever-edgy Kristen Stewart for taking some much-needed time for herself and just living her life. Keep crushing it, girl!
