Kristen Stewart just got real about her relationship with Robert Pattinson
In a recent interview with The New York Times, a completely reinvented Kristen Stewart spoke candidly about her very public relationship with Robert Pattinson. The actress doesn’t typically directly address questions about her superstar ex and their famous relationship, so hearing her talk about him now after a little time and life perspective is really fascinating.
She said, “People wanted me and Rob to be together so badly that our relationship was made into a product. It wasn’t real life anymore. And that was gross to me. It’s not that I want to hide who I am or hide anything I’m doing in my life. It’s that I don’t want to become a part of a story for entertainment value.”
We can only imagine the amount of pressure that comes with working so intimately with your partner, along with literally millions of people wanting you to be with them.
And while Stewart has always been incredibly honest about many elements of her personal life, she admitted that her approach to public relationships completely changed after she began dating women.
“I would never talk about any of my relationships before, but once I started dating girls it seemed like there was an opportunity to represent something really positive. I still want to protect my personal life, but I don’t want to seem like I’m protecting the idea, so that does sort of feel like I owe something to people.”
It’s truly inspiring that Stewart is comfortable and confident enough to use her fame to help advocate for normalcy of the LGBQT lifestyle, especially considering she’s open about the fact that she’s not like many of her peers.
She explains, “I’m not the typical showman. But at the same time, I want so badly to expose myself. I want to be understood and I want to be seen, and I want to do that in the rawest, purest, most naked way I can.”
Knowing that Stewart has really grown into herself and is finding happiness is so heartwarming. It’s a great reminder that sometimes you need a little time just to take care of yourself first, even if you were in an extremely public relationship (even if it wasn’t like superstar levels like her and Robert).
“I’m not sad anymore. I’m not saturated anymore. I’ve been dropped back into everyone else’s reality and now I can live again.”
