Kristen Bell shares “embarrassing” kid photo, we love her even more

Obviously, we all know that Kristen Bell is a gorgeous, funny, sloth-loving actual Disney princess. Between her adorable family with her husband Dax Shepard and their two kids and her consistently amazing TV and movie careers, it’s almost hard to imagine that there was ever a time when Bell was anything less than utterly perfect.

Of course at the end of the day, like all of us, Bell is only human. And also like all of us, she had her fair share of embarrassing kid haircuts and cringeworthy photos commemorating said haircuts back in the day.

The Bad Moms actress appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden last night alongside Ellen Pompeo and Kurt Russell to promote her new (hilarious) NBC show The Good Place. While there, she talked about how she played baseball on an all-boys team while growing up (she was “pretty scrappy“) and how her mom decided to prevent Kristen from getting any “flack” from the little boys on the team.

“My mother made sure that I would not take any flack from anybody because she gave me a real sort of disastrous kind of haircut,” Kristen explained.

Think she’s exaggerating? Never fear – James Corden had a copy of the adorable photo of little Kristen at the ready.

Awww! Little Kristen is just as cute as I imagined, haircut be damned. She’s still got those mischievous eyes, even as a kid.

… But, let’s be real, the haircut is a bit undeniably rough, in that “My mom just cut my hair, and she doesn’t really know how to cut hair!” kind of way.

According to Bell, her mother’s idea seems to have been to have her daughter really blend in as one of the boys, with a semi-androgynous haircut. “What she did to make sure I fit in with the boys was [she] took the bangs past the ear, past the forehead, past the ear, all the way down to the back, which I believe we now call a mullet, but I was one of the first.”

LOL! Mullet or not, Kristen was as adorbs then as she is now. It’s also great to hear her looking back on what could have been an awkward or uncomfortable memory with a great sense of humor, as per usual.
