Kristen Bell eavesdropped on Dax Shepard explaining the middle finger to their daughters, and the video is everything
Just one of the many reasons we adore Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard is that they always keep it real with their kids, daughters Delta and Lincoln, who are 5 and 6. As Bell told People back in October, “We just pretty much tell them anything if they ask us. We don’t dumb it down.” As you can imagine, that gets them into some pretty funny/awkward situations. Case in point: Just try to make it through this video of Bell listening in on Shepard explaining the “naughty finger” to the girls without laughing.
Bell’s original video, posted to her Instagram Story, has since expired, but it was captured in part by a fan account. In it, Bell is holding back laughter listening to Dax talking to their daughters off-camera.
In text over the post, Bell wrote, “I have been waiting for this conversation since the day I got pregnant. The one where we talk about what fingers mean when u hold them up.”
You can hear one of their daughters tell her dad about a finger she seems to be holding up. She explains that she heard a classmate at school say, “You know what this one is? This one means fuck.” LOL.
Dax, for the record, takes on the conversation like a champion, building up his daughter and explaining on her terms.

“Yes, that’s right,” Shepard says, and then when his daughter says her classmate says does it a lot, he says, “He does? He’s naughty.” He continues, not just telling her not to do it, but expressing love in his explanation:
"You know that's a naughty finger and I never see you do that. It makes me so proud. That you know it, yet you don't do it.
His wife also loves his response, writing “@daxshepard u handled this brilliantly.”
The couple is famously private about their children, so this inside look into their parenting life is extra sweet.
