Krispy Kreme is giving away free donuts next week for basically the best reason ever
Attention everyone who enjoys delicious treats and being rewarded for doing good things for humanity!
Krispy Kreme is risking election fraud to give us all free donuts!
We’ll talk about the whole election fraud thing in a minute, but can we just take a second to recognize that the folks at Krispy Kreme are so generous and awesome? Remember that time they decided to sell a dozen doughnuts for $.78? Or when they added new donut flavors to melt our mind? Krispy Kreme, we have strong feelings for you.
So basically, the donut company announced that on November 8th, they’re giving away free donuts to anyone and everyone who comes in with an “I Voted” sticker.
HOWEVER, apparently this is technically a form of election fraud because it violates a U.S. code that prevents anyone who “solicits, accepts or receives expenditure in consideration of his [or HER!] vote.” Basically, if say, a store offered to give away a ton of free stuff in return for voting in a state that skewed heavily Democrat or heavily Republican, it could have a serious impact on election results.
But Krispy Creme will likely be okay, because basically everyone can agree that a love for donuts is seriously bipartisan.
And everything’s going to be okay. The team at Krispy Kreme are aware of the risk, and they only have the best of intentions. Here’s what Chief Marketing Officer Jackie Woodward said in a press release about offering free treats:
"We want to sweeten Election Day by saying ‘thank you’ to those who participate at the polls. It has been a long election season, and we think a free treat is the perfect way to reward voters."
Doughnuts for voters is officially a thing! And hopefully no one’s getting into trouble.
Hooray! This is great news to kick off the weekend. Now don’t forget to VOTE on November 8th and get your donut!
