Get ready for Doughnut Heaven: for one day Krispy Kreme will sell a dozen donuts for $.78
For those of us who have National Donut Day already marked on our calendars for next year (June 5th, for those of us who just opened up our iCals to do some marking), you actually AREN’T going to have to wait quite that long for an awesome donut day.
To celebrate their 78th anniversary, Krispy Kreme is giving us a a midsummer donut day on July 10th (that’s this coming Friday for those who still have those iCals open). That day, as FoodBeast reports, when you buy any regularly-priced dozen doughnuts AND bring in this Facebook group coupon , Krispy Kreme will throw in a dozen Original Glazed doughnuts for only 78 cents more. So, basically 24 doughnuts for the price of 12! Well, 12 plus 78 cents. Not a bad deal, especially if you’re in the market to make 23 new best friends (you obvs keep for yourself, that’s how this whole doughnut-sharing game works).
This isn’t the first time Krispy Kreme has pulled a fun celebratory stunt. On February 24th, 2015, they opened their 1000th store in Kansas City, Kansas, and the first customer was rewarded for walking through the door by receiving a dozen free doughnuts every week for a year.
The story behind Krispy Kreme is a fun one. In 1933 18-year old Vernon Rudolph began working for his uncle Ishmael Armstrong’s general store in Paducah, Kentucky, where they started selling their magical doughnuts. As the Great Depression dragged on, uncle and nephew packed up shop and moved to big city Nashville, where they focused exclusively on doughnuts, opening up “The Krispy Kreme Doughnut Company” in 1937. And the rest is history (honestly, more history should have doughnuts in it).
Happy 78th birthday, Krispy Kreme! Thanks for being so rad on the regular.
