KJ Apa says Archie is *supposed* to be a bad songwriter on “Riverdale”
If you haven’t yet seen Riverdale on the CW, you still have time to catch up. But if you do, you probably already know some jokes about the series. Now, KJ Apa says Archie is *supposed* to be a bad songwriter on Riverdale. Of course, we’re still relieved that Apa is okay after his recent car crash, when he fell asleep at the wheel after driving home from set. Scary! Speaking of on set, we still love that Apa’s onscreen father is Luke Perry, aka Fred Andrews. And fans continue to wonder if Apa and costar Camila Mendes are dating IRL, not just on TV.
Tbh, we’d love if this were the case…
But back to KJ Apa and Archie and their musical prowess — or lack thereof.
Musically speaking, Apa told The Last Magazine of Archie, "I don’t know how to say it, but we’re not at the same level, you know what I mean? Somehow I have to say that in not a cocky way, but he’s a beginner. Also, the songs that he writes, I don’t think I would listen to them. I do not have the same taste in music as him."
Interesting, right?
"I listen to a bit of everything, but mostly classic rock and punk rock," Apa told The Last Magazine. "I’m into harder stuff than Archie is."
IRL, Apa likes Van Halen and Third Eye Blind, he said, while Archie’s songs with Josie and the Pussycats are not quite that, as you probably know from seeing the show. Fun fact: For his Riverdale audition, Apa played an electric guitar version of the hit song “Mary Had a Little Lamb.” We love this — and we’d also love to see it!
However, as much as Apa thinks he’s on a different level than Archie when it comes to playing music, singing is another story.
"Singing is really uncomfortable for me," he told The Last Magazine. "It was definitely dipping out of my comfort zone."
So we guess that KJ Apa and Archie cancel each other out when it comes to their music-playing and singing abilities. In any case, we can’t wait to see what happens next on the show!
