The director of “Deadpool” really wants to make a solo Kitty Pryde movie, and we’re all about lady superheroes

It looks like another member of the X-Men could be getting their very own film. Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool, announced that he’s working on developing a solo film for Kitty Pryde. Kitty Pryde, also known as Shadowcat, has the ability to phase, or become intangible, as well as anything she touches. She can also manipulate electrical fields and sort of levitate. In short, she’s a pretty awesome member of the X-Men.

Though a couple of different actors played Kitty for brief cameos in X-Men and X2, Ellen Page most famously played the mutant in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past. It’s not clear who Miller has in mind for the lead role, and that is primarily because this film might never become a reality. As Collider reports, Miller is developing the film for 20th Century Fox, who has yet to greenlight the project, so there are still many things that could cause this film to phase out of reality.

However, it seems like the perfect time for a movie like this. With Dark Phoenix coming out in November 2018, it would be a great time for Fox to add another standalone superhero movie starring a female lead. Plus, with the X-Men universe expanding with X-Force and The New Mutants, there are undoubtedly great ways that Kitty’s story can be explored that we haven’t seen in her other cinematic appearances.

Miller was able to knock the Ryan Reynolds-led Deadpool movie out of the park, so it’s safe to say that he loves these characters and can do a comic book movie the right way. The only question is: will he even get the chance to make this movie? Let’s hope that he does, because the universe can always use another amazing female superhero.
