The Kitten Summer Games are the only kind of Olympics a cat lover needs

The upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are pretty exciting and everything, but wouldn’t it be more fun to watch adorable furry animals compete for prestigious athletic glory? Like specifically, cats? Our obsession with cats—aka the masters and commanders of the entire internet—is obvious, so it probably won’t come as a surprise that we are eagerly anticipating the best feline sporting event around, the Kitten Summer Games.
Yes, this is actually a real thing. On August 5th (the same day that NBC is airing the opening ceremony for the Summer Olympics), the Hallmark Channel will air this special event for cat lovers everywhere. Hosted by animal rights activist Beth Stern, the Kitten Summer Games is designed to promote feline adoption, a very worthy cause. (And let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to adopt a cat who is also a talented athlete?!).
More than 100 cats will take the stage in a series of events including gymnastic, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and even wrestling. This is still not a joke, by the way. These athlete cats, who are being dubbed ‘Cat-letes,’ will compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals, and they’ve been training long and hard for this event. And in case you were wondering, yes, the gymnastics coach is also a cat
As you can see in this trial, sporty kittens are hands down the cutest thing we’ve ever seen in our entire lives. Even if you’re not a cat enthusiast, this is guaranteed to start your day out on the right track.
