Kit Kat just pulled a Wonka with these edible 24-karat gold candy bars
Nestle’s Japan’s Kit Kat Chocolatory, which is the world’s first — and so far only — Kit Kat boutique just celebrated one million customers and want to do something a little out of the ordinary to mark the occasion. So, they’re releasing Kit Kats covered in an edible gold-leaf layer—as you do when you reach 1 million customers.
If you’re like whoa, WHAT? Gold-leaf is completely edible and safe to eat, and doesn’t necessarily taste like anything — just don’t go snacking on it all the time. According to the press release for these golden bars, the pieces will actually have a “sublime bitter” chocolate taste, which sounds along the lines of something like dark chocolate—just wrapped in gold. The crunchy wafer middle will stay completely the same; not like that’s going to be made out of rubies or anything.
These Kit Kats won’t come cheap, and will be sold individually. Which means unfortunately, there will be none of this “break me off a piece of that Kit Kat bar” because there will be only one to a package.
If this still sounds like something you need in your life, the pieces go on sale in December for around $16. Oh, and only 500 bars will be released, which means it’s time to pack your bags and jet off to Japan.
