Kirsten Dunst explains why she gets self-conscious acting around Elle Fanning, and we get it

The early ’00s were undoubtedly peak Kirsten Dustin era. She reigned over practically every box office and managed to grant us with an untold number of sublime teen movies for audiences to forever be grateful for. Seriously, Kirsten Dunst was the shiz, so when she spilled the beans in a recent interview with Dazed that she actually had some insecurities when it came to acting next to her co-star Elle Fanning we were…in a word: flummoxed.

Especially because there doesn’t seem to be a reason for someone as talented as Kirsten Dunst, whose won several awards for her performances in top-notch films, to be insecure. We ADORE Elle Fanning, but she’s kind of a newbie to the game when paralleled to Kirsten. But in a new interview, Kirsten opened up about how all this could be and it’s actually for a pretty relatable reason.

Ahead of the release of her latest film, The Beguiled, Kirsten got real with Dazed about why acting in front of her co-star kind of made her uncomfortable.

Kirsten explained that the hesitation she felt when the time came to act in front of Elle had everything to do with how close they got on set.

“When I have friends or family come visit me on set, I get very self-conscious because they know me so well. And the more Elle and I got to know each other, the more we became friends…So when you have to act in front of your friend you get really self-conscious. And then, add a bunch of inside jokes to that on set and you’re screwed.

Fortunately for us, Kirsten was able to pull through and pull off a performance that has thus far been widely praised by critics. Super pumped to see Kirsten and Elle star alongside each other in another Sophia Coppola female powered daydream.
