The most epic “30 Rock” cameo was sadly cut from “Kimmy Schmidt”

Our beloved Netflix original, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, has the fingerprints of Tina Fey all over it, and it is a marvelous thing. Fey, who created the show and serves as an executive producer  (along with popping up as a guest star a few times) lovingly placed Kimmy deep in the heart of New York City, and also, perfectly within the 30 Rock timeline. Also maybe Mad Men. The proof is there if you look hard enough for it.

It’s because of this that Fey set out to squeeze in a 30 Rock cameo to end all 30 Rock cameos into Kimmy Schmidt Season 3, but alas, it was just too good and perfect for this world. Hold onto something you love, because Kenneth the Page was *this close* to crossing paths with Kimmy.

At the Kimmy Schmidt Season 3 premiere over the weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival, Fey explained to the crowd that they happened to be filming at 30 Rockefeller Center, and she had an idea. She knew Jack McBrayer — who played immortal NBC Page for all seven seasons — happened to be in NYC.

“I [called him up and] said, ‘Would you want to come down and just put on your weird ’70s suit like you’re still the president of NBC and just walk through the shot?’ she explained to the audience during a Q&A seassion. “He had like a 30 minute break from this play [he was performing in] and he came down and got all suited up and we just didn’t get it in time.

BLERG.

Fey promised the crowd that she’s going to try and get Kenneth and Kimmy to meet at some other time, and hey, never say never. Remember, nothing’s impossible except dinosaurs.
