All of the Best Memes About Kim Kardashian West’s Private Island Birthday Party
Getting "Kim, there's people that are dying" flashbacks.
Kim Kardashian West is feeling “humbled and blessed” at 40. The reality star and fashion mogul rang in her 40th birthday in perhaps the most tone-deaf way imaginable during a global pandemic that has killed more than a million people, and the internet isn’t about to let her get away with it. Kardashian West carted her “closest inner circle” to a private island to celebrate her birthday and “pretend things were normal for just a brief moment in time.” Huh, the internet says. Must be nice.
“There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter,” Kardashian captioned an October 27th post. “Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment. After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time.”
She continued, “We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is.”
And by posting this Instagram, we, too, are reminded of how privileged Kim’s life is. And collectively, we are laughing at the irony, hypocrisy, and absurdity of it all.
So, naturally, Kardashian West’s private island birthday party has become the latest copy-pasta meme.
Twitter users, celebs, and even institutions are copy-pasting her caption and adding in their own images. We’re talking Midsommar, Lost, and even Zoey 101.
That includes the Museum of Modern Art and The Sims (yes, the computer game)—and we have no choice but to howl until our lungs hurt.
Seriously. It’s so funny that it hurts.
Even though we’re enjoying this new meme a little too much, people in Kardashian’s comments are calling out the real truth of the situation.
One person wrote, “Girl this is not 40, this is $$ and Doctors. Stop spreading a false image and passing it off for #thisis40.” And another added, “I love how the elite don’t have to social distance OR wear masks.”
We suppose there’s nothing else left to say but…Kim, there’s people that are dying. Yeesh.
