Kim Kardashian shared a throwback photo with Kanye West from when they were *just friends*

We all know that some of the strongest relationships are those that start from a place of friendship. And we guess that counts for celebrities, too. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have kept their romantic connection strong for five years, and we wonder if it has something to do with the fact that these two were friends first.

If you’re like us, you probably forgot that detail of their backstory, but Kim just shared the sweetest picture of her and Kanye hanging out in 2009 as friends. They wouldn’t start dating until 2012. The fact that this high-powered celebrity couple started out as friends proves that they are even more relatable than we thought.

We may never have imagined back then that those two buddies would end up together.

Being with someone forever means you have to spend a lot of time with them, so you should pick someone you can get along with. That’s where Kim and Kanye made a smart choice because they clearly got along great. Plus, so many of us end up connecting with people who run in our friend group.

Here they are seated just inches from one another at Fashion Week 2009 when Kim was dating Reggie Bush.

We can totally see how spending all this time together made them finally realize they were made for one another. And we’re glad they did because they’ve become one very fabulous celebrity couple.

So if you’re feeling the woes of the dating world, maybe take a hint from Kim and Kanye. Because sometimes friends make the best soulmates.
