Kim Kardashian explains the difference between her new KKW beauty line and Kylie Cosmetics

When we first heard that Kim Kardashian was launching her own line, KKW Beauty, comparisons to her sister’s beauty company, Kylie Cosmetics, immediately bubbled forth. And while many may use this as an opportunity to pit the two women against each other, Kim has been very forthcoming in the clear differences between her and Kylie’s makeup brand.

These two sisters are clearly very close and supportive of each other — the factory that makes Kylie Cosmetics is the same that will be manufacturing KKW Beauty. There is definitely enough room for both of them to create beauty empires, especially considering the fact that they have an entire planet full of fans devoted to them.

Kim Kardashian tells WWD that after dipping her toe into the beauty world with her Kylie Cosmetics collab, she felt ready to break out on her own.

The first installment of Kim’s KKW Beauty has a contour and highlight kit. It includes dual-ended highlighter sticks, contour sticks, and a dual-ended blending tool with a brush and sponge.

There are four different shades to choose from: Light, Medium, Dark, and Deep Dark.

Kim is very aware of how popular her makeup brand is bound to be, especially after seeing the immediate success of her first lip kit collaboration with Kylie Cosmetics. She tells WWD:

"We have a really good general idea of what our customer is going to be like. We are definitely prepared for the demand.

That said, she is very aware of the fact that she has a different audience than Kylie, given the fact that she is considerably older than her sister. And while many of Kylie’s products require a certain amount of finesse, Kim wants her products to be more accessible for those who may not be as skilled in the makeup department.

Kim mentioned to WWD:

We do have a lot of similar things — but we aren't doing the same products, so we won't run into that overlap. We're really cautious of that. We work together to make sure we don't overlap.

And that makes perfect sense! No one in the Kardashian/Jenner clan would ever step on each other’s toes or leave anything to chance. Even when they’re working on their individual business ventures they check in with each other.
