Kim Kardashian’s new makeup collection is inspired by these true ‘90s icons
As if you didn’t get the memo, the ’90s are officially back, and it looks like Kim Kardashian West has fully hopped on the nostalgia train. Through her makeup brand KKW Beauty, Kardashian West is launching two brand-new ’90s-themed makeup collections that will bring out everyone’s inner ’90s icon.
“I’m so excited to announce my new 90’s inspired collection of all matte formulas—The Matte Smoke & Matte Cocoa Collections!!!” Kardashian wrote via Instagram on August 5th. “I get a lot of my makeup inspiration from the 90’s and love how nostalgic this entire collection is.”
Kardashian West is throwing out some seriously iconic ’90s names when she talks about her collection’s inspiration.
In a video shared to both her Instagram Stories and Twitter, we get a look at what seem to be her muses for the new collection. In the video, the camera pans across small Post-It-like squares of paper with the names of our favorite ’90s stars. We’re talking everyone from Brandy and Monica to Katie Holmes and Jennifer Love Hewitt to Tia and Tamara Mowry, Shannen Doherty, Neve Campbell, Tatiana Ali, Alicia Silverstone…and the list goes on. It’s a who’s who of who we wanted to be in the 1990s.
Even her promo images for the announcement on her Instagram seem to channel ’90s badasses Donatella Versace, Naomi Campbell, and Helena Christensen.
According to Kardashian West’s announcement, the collection features two 10-pan eyeshadow palettes, six matte lipsticks, six lip liners, and five eyeliners. The entire haul is separated into two colorways: Matte Smoke, which is grayscale-themed, featuring matte black and white eyeshadows, with a few nudes sprinkled in; and Matte Cocoa, which leans more toward a matte-bronze look.
Kardashian West is really throwing us back into the ’90s with her lipstick names (in a good way, of course). She’s dubbed them “90’s Chic,” “90’s Glam,” “90’s Style,” “90’s Runway,” “90’s Supermodel,” and “90’s Icon.” We want all of the above, TBH.

Both Matte Smoke and Matte Cocoa will be available for purchase at kkwbeauty.com come Friday, August 16th.
KKW Beauty fans can purchase the entire collection (both Matte Smoke and Matte Cocoa) for $295 or pick and choose individual pieces from each theme. Eyeliners start at $10, lip liners at $12, and matte lipsticks at $18.
