Today in awesome: Kids rocking out to Led Zeppelin is next-level impressive
Yesterday marked the 40th anniversary of Led Zeppelin’s absolutely incredible double album Physical Graffiti — a seriously historic body of work that includes really momentous tracks like “Kashmir.”
If you are jonseing for some Zeppelin genius in honor of that anniversary, a group of kids unexpectedly brought that awesome home — all on percussion instruments.
The Louisville Leopard Percussionists, a group of approximately 60 kids ages 7 – 12, put together a compilation of Led Zeppelin tracks that is seriously from another planet of amazing. According to The Daily News, the kids used drums, cymbals, snares, xylophones, marimbas, vibraphones, congas, and bongos to play a the most awe-inducing cover of Zeppelin possibly ever.
A YouTube video of the kids playing “Kashmir,” “The Ocean,” and “Immigrant Song” that was recorded last fall is now going viral all over the interwebz, with almost two million views as of this morning. Why’d it go viral months later? Well Jimmy Page, guitarist for Led Zeppelin, shared the video on his Facebook page, claiming it was just, “too good not to share.” It’s a happy coincidence that this all happened in conjunction with the Physical Graffiti anniversary.
Jimmy is 100% right. These kids have got seriously impressive talent and hopefully a love for Led Zeppelin, as does whoever put together this rockin’ percussion arrangement. See for yourself, no regrets. We promise.
