KFC has hired Norm Macdonald = KFC made the best decision ever

Over the past few days, you might have noticed something different about KFC. No, nothing’s changed with their chicken, but their ads are slightly different now. While we’ve still got Colonel Sanders hawking us the same finger lickin’ good chicken, it’s the Colonel who’s different. Earlier this year, the very awesome Darrell Hammond was seen donning the white suit and mustache for the commercials. But now he’s been replaced by fellow SNL alum Norm Macdonald, and suddenly we have a really strong urge to go get a bucket of chicken.

“Other than not quite looking like him, his voice being different, and his inability to cook the world’s best chicken, we thought Norm was the perfect choice to play the Real Colonel. I think the fans will agree.” Kevin Hochman, chief marketing officer KFC US, explains in a press release. According to KFC, the “real” Colonel Sanders is now back, and even the new commercials point that out right away. Macdonald even comments that Hammond was an “impostor.” Thems fighting words.

The press release also mentions that, “Colonel Sanders lived far too amazing a life to be told in just one act!” which kinda sounds like this is just the first of many more makeovers to come for the Colonel. Hammond was the first reincarnation for this guy (and his commercials were good, too) but now KFC is stepping everything up a notch. And actually these new commercials are just a little bit funnier — if only because of the way Macdonald shrugs after the way he says “real Colonel Sanders.” I laugh every time.

Good marketing campaign, or GREAT marketing campaign? Either way, still really thinking about chicken right now.

And hopefully KFC will continue to rotate through former SNL castmembers for this role. Maybe Jon Lovitz or Dana Carvey will show up next. Or even the great Maya Rudolph or Amy Poehler. Think of how much chicken we’d buy then.
