We have so many questions about KFC’s new Double Down Dog. Mainly, say what?
By now you’ve probably heard about KFC’s newest creation, the Double Down Dog. If that sounds more like a bet you’d make on the playground, it’s because it basically is: it’s a hot dog wrapped in a fried chicken bun. So, that’s a hog dog, sans an actual hot dog bun, plus fried chicken. Also, drizzled in cheese. So that’s meat, wrapped in meat, plus cheese, if this picture still hasn’t been painted clearly for you.
For everyone out there who is really into eating two meats at once, you’re going to have to travel far to snatch this one up — it’s only available in the Philippines. It’s also only available for two days, yesterday, and today. Even then, KFCs in the Philippines are only allowed to sell fifty Double Down Dogs a day. Why? Did everyone realize this might not be the best idea halfway through mass producing them?
Now, don’t get me wrong. I love a good chicken sandwich. I even love chicken and waffles (seriously, it’s delicious, you guys). I also have been known to eat a hot dog from time to time, but only at State Fairs, so that’s like once every two years. However, the thought of these two food groups — plus what appears to be melted nacho cheese — doesn’t make me want to run out and grab one. Biggest thing I need answered: how did they mold the chicken into that bun shape?? Is there a bun-shape machine out there that we don’t know about? At first the hype makes this sound GREAT, but taking a closer look at it, maybe not so much.
Currently, there are no plans to bring this Double Down Dog to the United States. But, that doesn’t mean it won’t ever grace the KFCs here. It also doesn’t mean that KFC won’t try something else with chicken-for-bread, too. Back in 2010 KFC released its Double Down sandwich, which was “bacon, two different kinds of melted cheese, the Colonel’s secret sauce. . .pinched in between two pieces of Original Recipe chicken fillets.”
I don’t know about this. It might be something fun to say that you tried the Double Down dog and survived. But then it might also just be fun eating fried chicken and hot dogs not smushed together in a sandwich.
