Kesha just shared a painful update about her heartbreaking battle against Dr. Luke

It’s been just over a month since Kesha lost her court battle to be released from her recording contract with Sony under Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe label. This news came after Kesha accused the producer of emotionally, physically, and sexually abusing her years prior, an experience she says nearly caused her to lose her life.

But the legal setback has not been the end of Kesha’s ordeal. According to a post the singer-songwriter shared on her Instagram account today, there is some major drama going on behind the scenes in her ongoing lawsuit against Dr. Luke.

“I got offered my freedom if I were to lie,” Kesha wrote. “I would have to apologize publicly and say that I never got raped. This is what happens behind closed doors. I will not take back the truth. I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again.”

While the exact circumstances that prompted this message remain unclear, it is clearly related to her continued fight to be released from her contract. Last month, her lawyer appealed the decision of New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich that barred the 29-year-old from breaking her contract and sparked the #FreeKesha movement online and on the streets. Now, her case will go before a New York appellate court.

Meanwhile, rumors are brewing that Sony Music may drop Dr. Luke (though the producer’s lawyer denies that claim) and Sony has tentatively offered to let Kesha record without Dr. Luke.

Whatever happens, we hope this case is resolved soon and in favor of Kesha, who clearly wants to move on with her life and to leave this painful chapter behind. (She’s even preparing new music.) Here’s hoping the right decisions are made on her behalf.
