Kesha is releasing a documentary about making her album Rainbow, and it’s the most powerful thing you’ll see today

To say that Kesha has had a tumultuous past couple of years would be an understatement. She filed her first lawsuit against her former producer, Dr. Luke, in 2014, and the case has since spanned years, keeping Kesha from recording her own music. A judge dismissed Kesha’s case — which sated that Dr. Luke sexually, physically, and verbally abused her — in 2016, but that hasn’t stopped her from fighting for her truth or recording music here and there when she could.

In August 2017, she re-emerged and released a powerful album, Rainbow, that chronicles her struggles during the darkest period of her life and her eventual recovery. The collection of songs tells a story of resilience and survival. It earned the singer two Grammy nominations: Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Praying.” Rolling Stone describes the album as “freshly empowered, fearlessly feminist,” and Pitchfork says “the fact that Rainbow exists at all is a feat unto itself.”

Now, in partnership with Apple Music, Kesha is ready to tell her story on film.

On the anniversary of Rainbow, she’s releasing Rainbow – The Film, a documentary detailing the making of the album. It will also feature never-before-seen footage of Kesha’s performances and tours, her songwriting and recording process, her private life, and “psychedelic vignettes” that depict her struggles.

In a press statement, Kesha said she hopes that the documentary will serve as an inspiration to others.

"Making Rainbow the album was such a therapeutic process and given the opportunity to turn it into a three-dimensional piece of art has helped me find even deeper healing and catharsis," she said. "I hope this film inspires others to never give up even if you feel full of hurt or lost, because after the storm comes a rainbow. Depression, anxiety and mental illness are things we all need to talk about more, and there is no shame in asking for help. Making the decision to work on yourself is the bravest thing you can do. I hope this film helps bring light and love to everyone."

With the release of the documentary, Kesha proves that she’s like a phoenix, rising from the ashes of her past demons and coming out stronger and more powerful.

Rainbow – The Film can be streamed exclusively on Apple Music starting August 10th.
