Kesha got her first Grammy nomination, and Twitter is losing it

It’s always good news when award shows honor the artists that deserve recognition, and this year, the Grammys really came through. Along with some other awesome nods from the Recording Academy to artists like JAY-Z, Kendrick Lamar, and Pink, Kesha got her first Grammy nomination — and the internet is here for it.

She’s nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance for the single “Praying” and Best Traditional Pop Album for her comeback album, Rainbow. She’ll be competing against the likes of Ed Sheeran, Pink, and Lady Gaga (among others), so the competition is sure to be fierce — but no matter who wins, we are thrilled that Kesha is getting this much-deserved recognition.

Rainbow was more than a traditional comeback album, given that Kesha spent five long years battling for the right to create music without the involvement of her sexual and emotional abuser, producer Dr. Luke. Kesha still faces a defamation suit from Dr. Luke and, according to the New York Times, Dr. Luke still stands to profit from Rainbow since it was released by RCA and Kemosabe, two Sony imprints that were created in part with the notorious producer. Needless to say, it’s amazing to see Kesha come out on top with these nominations.

And people on Twitter are all about it.

Her fans are serious about this.

Talk about empowering! There was a time when we feared  Kesha would never release music again — and now she’s rocking not one, but two potential Grammy wins.

We’re not gonna lie: As much as we love every artist nominated (like, come on, Gaga) — we’re currently hoping Kesha gets to take home some statues come January. Not only does she deserve them for her work, but it would be a powerful reminder to women everywhere that staying true to yourself and speaking up can lead to beautiful things.
