We are loving Kesha’s support of former Miss Universe Alicia Machado

During Monday’s debates, Hillary Clinton brought up the mistreatment of former Miss Universe Alicia Machado as an example of Donald Trump’s predilection for body-shaming, disrespecting women, and displaying misogynistic behavior. Quick refresher: Trump took shots at Machado’s body and Latina heritage respectively after she was crowned Miss Universe by calling her “Miss Piggy” and “Miss Housekeeping.” He has yet to apologize. In fact, even after the debates, rather than show remorse, he chose to further comment on her weight gain in the wake of earning her crown.

People have rushed to support Machado, and one of her most prominent champions has been Kesha, a star that unfortunately knows all too well what it means to deal with misogyny in the spotlight.

"I want to give my support and respect to you, Alicia," Kesha says in an Instagram post she published this week. "You did not deserve to be shamed by this monster. Your body is NO ONE else's business. Donald Trump said that your body or weight was an issue (which makes me so sad and just sick). but, I find the real problem here being his bloated, arrogant ego and offensive, racist, misogynist verbal diarrhea. he is a bully. "WORDS mean something, and can be extremely hurtful and dangerous. They stay deep inside you and can affect your emotional and mental health. I know this from personal experience. They are hard, and sometimes impossible, to ever forget. please don't let him get to you any longer, instead realize that you are a strong woman and a beautiful role model for standing up and telling the truth, even if it hurts to remember it. much love, and mad respect."

We are so glad that Kesha used her platform and her power for good, to prop up a fellow lady who is dealing with struggles Kesha knows all too well. Check out the Instagram below:
